Deep Springs College
Specialty: Liberal arts college for male only
Requirement: Applicants must take the SAT or ACT and complete a two-stage application that includes essays, transcripts, test scores, a book list for the past year, and a list of favorite books with explanatory descriptions. Those selected for second round are asked to write three additional essays, pay a four-to-five day visit to the school for interviews, and complete an optional creative supplement.

Specialties: Naval architecture and marine engineering
Requirement: A minimum SAT verbal score of 600 and a math score of 660 are required. Students should have a strong high school record. All students are issued a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document with Student Observer classification. All applicants must passover the physical requirement of climbing steep or vertical ladders; maintain balance on a moving deck; pull objects that weigh up to 50 lbs. for distances as far as 400 feet; open or close watertight doors that may weigh up to 56 pounds and so on.
Webb Institute - Location: Glen Cove, N.Y
Successful applicants for the class of 2013: 27/74 applicants or 36%

Curtis Institute of Music
Specialty: Music
Requirement: The school seeks students who want to pursue a professional music career. The most important admission requirement is the audition in which the audition committee will determine the artistic promise of students. No minimum GPA is required.

Successful applicants for the class of 2013: 44/896 applicants or 4%, were accepted, 25 of those were accepted into the undergraduate division.

Specialty: Liberal arts college with required work-study program
Requirement: The minimum ACT score is 17 and the minimum SAT score is 1210, but most successful students score between 20 and 30 on the ACT and between 1410 and 1980 on the SAT, GPA of 3.5 or higher. The majority of applicants have limited financial resources.
Berea College - Location: Berea, Ky
Successful applicants for the class of 2013: 516/2,745 applications or about 19%.
Estimated annual value of tuition: $24,400.
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Specialties: Marine engineering, navigation, maritime law, and ship administration
Requirement: Applicants must have a minimum SAT score of 510 (math) and 560 (reading), the average GPA requirement range from 3.5 to 3.6. In most cases, students must be U.S. citizens under 25; obtain a nomination from a U.S. senator or representative; pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment, master an exercise regimen, and be medically qualified by Navy commissioning standards. There are four others free tuition in the system: the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Successful applicants for the class of 2013: 450/1,823 applicants or 25%

William E. Macaulay Honors College at CUNY - Location: New York
Successful applicants for the class of 2013: 985/3,750 applicants or 26.3%

University of the People
Specialties: Business administration and computer science
Requirement: Applicants must submit proof of graduation from secondary school, proficiency in English, and have access to a computer with an Internet connection. No minimum ACT, GPA or SAT are required. The school follow a five-year academic schedule.
University of the People - Location: Online
Successful applicants for the class of 2013: The school enrolls all students who meet the requirements. In the first two terms, there are approximately 300 students from 69 countries.
College of the Ozarks
Specialty: Liberal arts with required work-study program
Requirement: Applicants should be in the top half of their graduating class. No minimum GPA is required. Although the financial need is required to demonstrate, but it waived for 10% of entering class.
