Every year, Forbes often unveils top ten universities in World University Rankings and Asian University Rankings basing on three main missions of a university: teaching, research and knowledge transfer. Ten universities below are on top 2010 in Asia.

The University of Hong Kong is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong. The official language of instruction is English. The University is mentioned as a "world-class comprehensive research university". In 2010, it was ranked 23rd in the QS World University Rankings and 1st in the Asian University Rankings.

The University of Tokyo


The University of Tokyo is a major research university located in Tokyo, Japan. The University has 10 faculties with a total of around 30,000 students, 2,100 of whom are foreigners. Its five campuses are in Hongō, Komaba, Kashiwa, Shirokane and Nakano. It is considered to be the most prestigious university in Japan. It ranks as the highest in Asia and 20th in the world in 2009 according to Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Pohang University of Science and Technology


Pohang University of Science and Technology or POSTECH is a private university, based in Pohang, South Korea, which focuses on research and education in science and technology. In 1998, it was ranked as the best science and technology university in Asia. Furthermore, Joongangilbo - one of Korea\'s most circulated daily newspapers, ranked POSTECH as the leading university in Korea from 2002–2006. In 2010, Times Higher Education ranked the university as the 28th best university in the world, and the third best in Asia.

The University of Science and Technology of China is a national research university in Hefei, China. The university is regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in China. It was founded in Beijing in September 1958. USTC was founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1958 in response to the urgent need for the national economy, defense construction, and education in science and technology.

Kyoto University


Kyoto University is a major national university in Kyoto, Japan. It is the second oldest university in Japan. The university has about 22,000 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
