America’s Ten Most Expensive Private High Schools

The annual tuition at some of America’s best private schools can be even higher than a brand car’s price. This means parents, whose children attend the schools, have to pay a huge amount of money every year.

The list below mentions ten most expensive private high schools in America based on tuition for daytime-only students in grades 9 through 12 for the 2011-2012 school year (excluding boarding-only schools and special-needs high schools).

 

1. Riverdale Country School, Bronx, New York

Day student tuition: $40,450

Endowment: $43 million

 

The Riverdale Country School’s athletic facilities include a 25-yard swimming pool, a fencing room, and a wrestling room

 

2. The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, New Jersey

Day student tuition: $39,960

Boarding student tuition: $48,800

Endowment: $200 million

The athletic facilities of this school feature an indoor ice hockey rink, an indoor competition pool, and nine-hole golf course

 

3. Concord Academy, Concord, Massachusetts

Day student tuition: $38,850

Boarding student tuition: $48,050

Endowment: $55 million

This school houses the Dance and Performance Space designed by renowned architect Graham Gund. It is a 2,500-square-foot, professional-level dance studio with a L’Aire-System sprung floor, state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment

 

4. Lawrence Academy, Groton, Massachusetts

Day student tuition: $38,770

Boarding student tuition: $50,375

Endowment: $20 million

The Campus houses a Sony Language Laboratory and six science labs

 

5. Middlesex School, Concord, Massachusetts

Day student tuition: $38,710

Boarding student tuition: $48,390

Endowment: $137 million

Alumni of the Middlesex School include Governor Bill Richardson and famous comedian Steve Carell

 

6. Dana Hall School, Wellesley, Massachusetts

Day student tuition: $38,496

Endowment: $21 million

The school is for girls, who live in one of six dormitories on campus and have golden chances to join an educational program away from the campus

 

7. Groton School, Groton, Massachusetts

Day student tuition: $38,420

Boarding student tuition: $49,810

Endowment: $237 million

The Groton School's grounds were designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted

 

8. The Hewitt School, New York

Day student tuition: $38,000

Endowment: $13 million

Students and faculty are divided into blue and white teams for competitions throughout the year

 

9. The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Connecticut

Day student tuition: $37,950

Boarding student tuition: $44,650

Endowment: $380 million

The school’s alumni include founders of “Time” magazine Henry Luce and Briton Hadden, former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, and CIA director Porter J. Goss

 

10. Trinity School, New York, New York

Day student tuition: $37,860

Endowment: $40.4 million

The school consists of two chapels, two theaters, two libraries, two swimming pools, three playgrounds, and three gymnasiums
